Dr. Vera Shanley, Integrative Health CoachVERA SHANLEY, MD

Vera Shanley MD is an Integrative Health Coach with a lifelong passion for the well being of individuals in all aspects of their health:  physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.  She feels deeply that each person has an innate right to integrated wellness in mind, body and spirit and that the journey begins with the belief that we all have the capacity to rediscover that wholeness with which we were born. She has spent her life acquiring skills and knowledge that can be instrumental in helping clients achieve their maximum health potential.

Her Integrative Health Coach credentials were obtained through Duke Integrative Medicine, one of the world’s leading centers in developing this new and exciting profession within the healthcare world.  Coaching has been shown to significantly increase the success rate for making health and life changes. Health coaching is client driven and uses a variety of skills to enable clients to achieve the health goals that matter most to them and which most improve the quality of their lives.

Over the course of her career, she has expanded her knowledge in a multiplicity of areas related to health and wellness that support her interests.  After completing her medical school training and her anesthesia residency at Wake Forest School of Medicine, she finished a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. She began her medical career as a board certified pediatric anesthesiologist, spending time both on the faculty of Emory Medical Center and subsequently at a private pediatric anesthesia practice in an elite group in Atlanta.  After leaving private practice in 2000, she spent the next five years as a volunteer pediatric anesthesiologist in developing countries including Vietnam, Burma, Nepal, Tibet, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

She is an active member of the Institute for Functional Medicine, the North Carolina Integrative Medical Society and the International Association for Health Coaches.

She currently works as an integrative health coach with individuals seeking to restore a sense of wellness and vitality that is missing, whether due to life changes, chronic diseases, health challenges or aging. Examples include individuals:

  • Living with chronic health issues of any kind and want to reclaim “normal” (i.e. autoimmune illnesses, stress related health issues, food sensitivities, sleep problems, diabetes, mobility challenges, cardiac disease or weight issues)
  • Recovering after surgery, an accident or other health related crisis  who want to optimize the return to health and not allow age to limit their health and wellness
  • Striving to adopt healthier habits or incorporate a new life enhancing practice (i.e. people who are basically healthy but want to live more consciously and achieve a greater alignment between their values and their behaviors so they can live the life and be the person they intended)

Her expertise lies in partnering with clients to move forward in their health by helping to clarify goals and values, developing an active plan for realization of those goals and providing the essential support for lasting change.
