REMY COEYTAUX, MD, PhD

Dr. Coeytaux has extensive experience and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of headache. He has published many scientific papers in medical journals on the subject and was the recipient of a 5-year, National Institutes of Health (NIH) mentored career development award that focused on acupuncture for chronic daily headache, and he is currently the principal investigator of a mentored career enhancement award in patient centered outcomes research (PCOR) for mid-career and senior investigators entitled “Assessment of a personalized health care intervention for chronic daily headache” funded by the Agency for Healthcare and Research Policy (AHRQ). Dr. Coeytaux is especially interested in, and knowledgeable about, migraine headaches, tension-type headaches, chronic migraine, and chronic daily headache.  Dr. Coeytaux  works with patients and their other healthcare providers to develop an integrative, personalized health plan designed to treat a patient’s particular form of headache that may incorporate both prescription medications as well as complementary or alternative medicine approaches. In seeking the best solutions for his patients, Dr. Coeytaux often refers to and works with colleagues such as neurologists, pain specialists, family physicians, general internists, gynecologists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopathic physicians, massage therapists, stress management experts, traditional Chinese medicine providers, cranial sacral therapists, and health coaches.

About Dr. Remy Coeytaux
Dr. Remy Coeytaux is a board-certified family physician who received his MD from Stanford Medical School, and his PhD in Epidemiology from the UNC GIllings School of Global Public Health.  He is a former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.  He was previously on faculty at UNC School of Medicine and is now an Associate Professor at Duke University School of Medicine.  He is a graduate of the Bravewell Collaborative Fellowship with Dr. Andrew Weil’s Integrative Medicine Program through the University of Arizona. Dr. Coeytaux is a member of the faculty of the Duke Evidence Synthesis Group at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI).  He has conducted and published several randomized clinical trials (RCT) of acupuncture, and is currently co-principal investigator of an RCT of acupuncture in the treatment of menopausal hot flashes funded by the NIH.  Dr. Coeytaux serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Acupuncture Research and the Integrative Health, Education and Learning (IHEAL) Center (which is doing business as Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center).

Insurance Coverage and Cash Payments
Dr. Coeytaux is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Coventry, Duke Select, Duke Basic, & Medicare.  Dr. Coeytaux’s fee for an integrative medicine consultation or headache consultation for new patients who do not have health insurance is $150.
