Internal Medicine, Nephrology & Hypertension
Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Hypertension Care at Integrative Health Center:
1. Appointments with a board-certified internist and nephrologist.
2. A holistic medical approach designed to maximize your health and
wellbeing and minimize the need for medication as much is possible.
Rob Schertz, MD is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He received his residency and fellowship training at UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Schertz brings an integrative approach to adult internal medicine, including the management of chronic adult illnesses such as chronic kidney disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and other medical conditions.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a common
condition that is often treated with prescription medication. There
are a number of other approaches which may be beneficial towards
treatment of high blood pressure, including but not limited to
lifestyle modification, herbal therapy, vitamins/supplements,
mind-body therapies such as meditation, biofeedback, mindfulness, and
many more. Dr. Schertz will work with you to explore these
possibilities.
Chronic kidney diseases are a relatively uncommon, but potentially
devastating, group of diseases. Traditional medicine emphasizes
strict control of the underlying disease process in secondary kidney
disorders such as that seen with diabetes and hypertension. Other
less common causes of kidney failure, such as glomerulonephritis,
focal glomerulosclerosis, and a number of other disorders, may be
treated with immunosuppressive drugs.
Integrative treatments for CKD have not been seriously studied but may have beneficial results on a case by case basis. Dr. Schertz is currently enrolling patients in a pilot study to test the effects of acupuncture in chronic kidney disease as one alternative. Other alternative modalities may be suggested on a case-by-case basis.
Dr. Schertz does not sign contracts with insurance
companies or file insurance. He is an out-of-network provider.
Patients pay at the time of their visit. Patient visits are coded so patients can file their own insurance claims.
New patients should make a 1-hour appointment with Dr. Schertz.
